First Bravery Awards for Indonesians

Four Nias Islands Residents, Benar Giawa, Adiziduhu Harefa, Motani Harefa and Seti Eli Nduru are the first indonesians who receive Bravery Awards from Australian government.
Australia’s ambassador to Indonesia, Bill Farmer, said that The four men would always have a special place in Australia for their bravery.
The four villagers from the island of Nias receive Australia’s third-highest bravery award for providing assistance to the dying and injured aboard a downed Royal Australian Navy helicopter in 2005, the Australian Embassy in Jakarta said on Friday.
The 4 Nias resident were in location and rescued two survivors while Nine Australians aboard the Sea King helicopter were killed when it crashed due to mechanical failure.
Farmer said that these men risked their lives to save our citizens, as before handing out the medals one by one. He represents Australia to deliver the gratitude to these men.
Australia’s Bravery Medal dates back to 1975, given as an appreciation for acts of courage from people whose selfless actions protect the lives or property of others.
